5 Freedom of Pet and Pet Care
Like humans and other creatures, animals and pets have also basic rights. So, every one of us has to fulfill the basic rights of pets and other animals. For pets, being free means having the ability to do whatever they desire. For animals, freedom means to provide all basic needs which make them comfortable to spend their life. Pets are dependent on humans. These living circumstances are within the control of humans, and if those conditions are poor, pets may not be able to live
Irish naturalist Francis Brambell conducted research and proposed a fundamental set of guidelines for all animals kept under human care, regardless of species, in 1965. The Association of Shelter Veterinarians modified the Farm Animal Welfare Council of Britain’s regulations for companion animals in shelters in 1965.
According to the Farm Animal Welfare Council of Britain, the five freedoms are concluded
Free from hunger and thirst:
Pests should be given food and water according to their needs. Pets should be provided fresh and clean water as well as food according to their body requirements.
Free from discomfort:
Pets should be provided free space where they live according to their will. All animals should have a home and a relaxing area to rest.
Freedom from discomfort, harm, or illness:
All animals should receive the right kind of medical attention, which includes both preventative care and quick diagnosis and treatment of illnesses or injuries. Avoid pet any discomfort or stress which can also cause physical and mental health problems
Freedom to express their natural behavior:
“Adequate space, suitable facilities, and company of the animal’s kind” should be provided for all pets. These are the necessities of their life. Natural behavior makes pets more comfortable. It will also help you to enjoy their company
Freedom from anxiety and discomfort:
Pets should be provided a free lifestyle without suffering any mental stress. A playful environment makes pets comfortable and gives them a chance to enjoy a healthy life. An uncomfortable environment can distress them and long their distress can change into mental health problems which can also create problems in physical health.
